Stephanie A. Black is a trial attorney who devotes her practice to fighting for injured clients. Growing up in a strong union family, Stephanie understands the importance of ensuring workers’ protection and obtaining just compensation for those who are injured due to the negligence or misconduct of others.
Stephanie joins the firm with a diverse background, first serving as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Madison County, Illinois, where she prosecuted crimes involving drugs, alcohol, domestic violence, and theft. She then worked for several years at a mid-sized defense firm, where she represented local businesses, school districts, and Fortune 100 companies in complex litigation. Because of her experience in working with insurance companies, Stephanie artfully navigates her clients through intricate lawsuits and effectively negotiates fair settlements. Prior to joining Groves Powers, Stephanie worked at a well-respected local firm where she successfully represented people injured in accidents and victims of sexual violence and discrimination.
Stephanie graduated summa cum laude from Southeast Missouri State University in 2008. Her commitment to academia and community service culminated in her nomination for Southeast Missouri State University Woman of the Year. She then obtained her law degree from Southern Illinois University in 2012. While there, Stephanie participated in the Moot Court program and was voted Chief Judge of the Trial Advocacy Team. Stephanie participated in several national trial advocacy competitions, earning “Best Advocate” at the 2012 Texas Young Lawyer’s Association Competition in Chicago. She was also inducted into The Order of Barristers for excelling in advocacy and service. Stephanie’s long-standing commitment to trial excellence and client-focused approach help her to secure outstanding results.
Stephanie is licensed to practice law in Missouri, Illinois, and the Southern District of Illinois. She is active in the legal community, serving on the Illinois State Bar Association’s Diversity Leadership Council and as a member of the Southern Illinois University School of Law Board of Visitors. In 2018, Stephanie was featured in a spotlight by the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Professionalism for promoting a culture of civility and inclusion.
